Magistrate Lamin George of the Bundung Magistrates' Court on 3rd October 2009, convicted and sentenced one Bakary Keita to a mandatory jail term of five years for deflowering a 6-year-old girl at Nemakunku.
In his judgment, the Magistrate stated that, the convict Bakary Keita was charged with the offence of defilement of an under-aged girl of 6 years, a charge he denied.
According to him, the prosecution in support of their case had called in five witnesses, while defence called in two witnesses. He said after looking at the entire evidence before the court, the court was satisfied that, the prosecution had proven their case and found the convict guilty of the offence charged.
The convict, in his plea of mitigation, begged the court to forgive him by maintaining that he did not commit the act.
Meanwhile, the Bundung Magistrates' Court, presided over by Magistrate Kayode yesterday convicted and sentenced one Pa Lamin Sillah to seven years in prison without an option of a fine for defiling an under-aged girl at Manjai Kunda on 2nd June 2008.
