Man convicted for stealing from dwelling house

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Monday convicted and sentenced one Joseph Mendy to a fine of D3,000 in default to serve six months in prison.

The court also ordered that the recovered items be returned to the owner.

Joseph Mendy admitted to the charge of stealing from a dwelling house and was convicted accordingly.

According to the facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Sgt 1781 Kinteh, the incident took place on 18 November 2011, at Pipeline, in the Kanifing Municipality.

He said the convicted person entered into the house of the complainant and stole a black bag containing laptop, digital camera, a charger and one I-Pod.

He narrated that the convicted person was arrested and taken to the Kairaba Police Station, where the complainant was called to identify the items.

The charge sheet revealed that on 18 November 2011, at Pipeline, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convicted person, Joseph Mendy, stole from the house of the complainant the following: one HP laptop marked Aspire valued at D25,000, one digital camera marked Sony valued at D8,000 and one I-Pod valued at D3,500.
