Man convicted for procuring false documents

Magistrate Babucarr Secka of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Sarjo Trawally to a fine of D15,000 in default to serve one year in prison for procuring documents by false pretence.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, 1st Class 2259 Ceesay, stated that on 3 March 2011, at the Banjul International Airport, the convict, Sarjo Trawally, produced a French passport No: 06TC 95785 and a French Identity Card No: 9075685975 before  the profiling officers of the Spanish Airline.

He said that upon checking the documents, the officers became suspicious and was later referred to the task force at the airport for further investigation.

"The convict was interrogated and statement was obtained from him," he said, adding that the convict was subsequently charged with the offence committed.

The convict admitted the facts as narrated by the prosecuting officer as true and correct and was subsequently convicted and sentenced accordingly.

The court also ordered that the passport and identification card be confiscated and returned to the French Embassy.
