Man Convicted for Injuring Animal

One Bolong Sanneh was recently convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates' Court for injuring animal and being in possession of firearms without authority.

 He was sentenced to a fine of D1000 in default to serve six months imprisonment. He was also order to compensate the complainant the sum of D8000 in default to serve one year imprisonment.

According to the facts as narrated by Sgt Samura, it happened on 1st May 2009 at Kitty village when the accused shot and killed four pigs belonging to one Borry Demba. He said the accused alleged that the pigs had destroyed his cultivated crops, adding that the owner reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.

Officer Samura further stated that during the investigation the gun which the accused used to kill the four pigs was also found in his possession without any licence.

The accused in his mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy on him as he is a family man.
