Man convicted for impersonation

Magistrate O. Cham of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court Wednesday convicted and sentenced one Lamin Colley to a fine of D6, 000 in default to serve three months imprisonment for impersonation.

According to the facts narrated in court by Chief Inspector Touray, it happened on 10 December 2014.

The accused arrived at Banjul International Airport and presented a Gambian passport Number PC217701 containing a UK residential permit number UK 3667645 bearing the name of one Sillaba Colley at the profiling desk.

Those at the profiling desk then became suspicious, and he was interrogated and confessed to the crime.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Lamin Colley, on 10 December 2014 at Banjul International Airport at the Gambia Bird Airline profiling desk, presented himself to be Sillaba Colley by presenting his Gambian passport number PC 217701 containing UK residential permit number UK 3667645 bearing the name of Sillaba Colley, when in fact his real name is Lamin Colley, with intent to travel to Barcelona, Spain.

The trial magistrate sentenced him accordingly, and said the court would decide whether or not to return the documents.
