Man convicted for fraudulently converting funds

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Muhammed Sam to a fine of D15, 000 in default to serve twelve months in prison.

Muhammed Sam was also ordered to pay a compensation of D60, 000 in default to serve three years in prison with hard labour.

He was ordered to pay both the fine and the compensation within 14 days.

According to the charge sheet, Muhammed Sam in September 2009, at Latrikunda German, in the Kanifing Municipality, fraudulently converted D57, 000, being money given to him by the complainant for clearing of three vehicles from the Gambia Ports Authority, which he failed to do and never returned the money to the complainant.
