Man convicted for escaping from lawful custody

One Mohammed Bah was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D250 in default to serve two weeks imprisonment for escaping from lawful custody.

The judgment was delivered by Magistrate Nkea of the Brikama Magistrates' Court.

According to the particulars of the offence, Mohammed Bah on 9 February 2010, at the Brikama Magistrates' Court premises, while in police custody escaped from lawful custody.

In a separate development, one Omar Jallow was also recently convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea of the Brikama Magistrates' Court.

He was sentenced on a charge of housebreaking to a fine of D2000 in default to serve one year in prison, while on a charge of stealing he was sentenced to a fine of D2000 in default to serve one year in prison.

The magistrate also ordered him to compensate the complainant in the sum of D5000 in default to serve another one year in prison.
