One Gibril Bojang, a prescription for the cattle at Kanilai Family Farm, was Monday convicted by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate S.K. Jorbateh.
Bojang was convicted on a charge of being in possession of firearm without authority.
Delivering her judgement, the trial magistrate said she understood the convict was a first-time offender, a family man and a sole breadwinner.
She said the convict was remorseful throughout the trial and if given the chance, he would change.
However, she said, the convict was charged with a serious crime of being in possession of firearm without authority, which poses a threat to the security of the state.
She therefore sentenced him to pay a fine of D100, 000 in default to serve 5 years in jail.
The court ordered that the single barrel gun be forfeited to the state.
The charge sheet stated that the accused, Gibril Bojang, on 13 October 2013, at Kanilai, Foni Kansala, was found in possession of a single barrel gun without a licence from the Inspector General of Police, and thereby committed an offence.
