Man arrested for alleged murder

The police last Friday arrested one Bakary Camara for the alleged murder of one Lamin Camara, his cousin brother, in Farafenni.

According to ASP Kebba Ansu Sawaneh, the CID officer commanding at Farafenni in the North Bank region, the incident occurred on Friday, 17th December 2009.

OC Sawaneh who was speaking at a press conference held at Police Headquarters in Banjul yesterday said the suspect had an argument with the deceased concerning a contract the suspect believes should have been awarded to him.

According to OC Sawaneh, the suspect confronted the deceased for not giving him the contract, and the deceased reportedly told him that his father (who happens to be an uncle to the suspect) awarded the contract.

OC Sawaneh added that the suspect was of the belief that it was the deceased who influenced his uncle.

He said on Friday they had an argument when eating dinner, and the suspect subsequently stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle on his left hand and chest.

Consequently, OC Sawaneh went on, the suspect fled to Pakala, a Senegalese border village, where he was arrested with the help of the Senegalese security and Gambian immigration officers.

Meanwhile, Police PRO superintendent Sulayman Secka confirmed the arrest of one Momodou Kanteh of Brufut village for allegedly attempting to rape a 3-year-old girl in an unfinished building.

Also one Alpha Saine Bah is reported to be in police custody for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
