Five national transport unionists charged

Ismaila Jibba, Fakebba Jasseh, Abdou Cham, Dawda Njie and Sarjo Kanyi all members of the Gambia National Transport, Agriculture, Food and Industrial Workers' Union were recently arraigned before Principal Magistrate Joseph Ikpala of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 30th October 2009, at the Bakoteh Tippa Garage car park, the accused persons assumed unlawfully to have been the people in charge of the said car park and in control of issuing tickets, which could cause annoyance or public disorder.

The accused persons also face a charge of common nuisance on count two. They pleaded not guilty on both counts.

They were granted bail with a Gambian surety each on the condition that they will avoid going to the Tippa Garage.

Cadet Inspector Mballow stood in for the prosecution.
