A resident of Kololi village called Li Jiang was recently arraigned before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with rash and negligent act, causing death and dangerous driving.
Jiang pleaded not guilty of the charges and was granted court bail of D100,000 with a Gambian surety who must deposit a national ID card with the court.
According to the charge sheet on count one, on 28 May 2011, along Serekunda Banjul Highway, opposite Printing Department, in the Kanifing Municipality, the defendant, Li Jiang, drove a motor vehicle with registration number 4RD 1859A, a Nissan Terrano Private, in a negligent manner, thereby caused the death of one Cherno Dahaba of New Jashwang.
Count two stated that on the same date and place, he drove the said vehicle in a dangerous manner, thereby caused the death of the said Cherno Dahaba of New Jeshwang.
Hearing continues on 14 June 2011.
