Alleged attempted rape case suffers setback

The alleged case of impersonation, attempted rape and robbery involving one Lamin Dibba could not proceed on Monday at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Jallow.

When the case was announced, Cpl 3560 Colley told the court that the case was attempted rape and robbery and as such the case file was sent to the Attorney General’s Chambers for legal advice.

According to him, the prosecution was yet to receive the case from the Attorney General for the prosecution to proceed with the case.

He craved the court’s indulgence to grant them an adjournment as they are still waiting for the case file from the AG Chambers.

The accused, for his part, raised concerns as he had been in detention for five months and urged the court to facilitate the trial.

At that juncture the case was adjourned till 9 June 2011.

According to the particulars of the offence on count one, the accused, Lamin Dibba, on 27 January 2011, at Latrikunda German, falsely represented himself to Lamin Jammeh and Isatou Kanteh as a police officer, knowing that such representation was false.

Count two indicated that the accused on the same date and place robbed Lamin Jammeh and Isatou Kanteh by forcefully taken her bracelet valued at D550, necklaces valued at D250, cash amount of D150 and a veil valued at D150, which amounted to D1,100.

Count three read that the accused, on the same date and place, attempted to rape Isatou Kanteh, by trying to have a canal Knowledge of her.

Readers would recall that the case was first mentioned on 8 February 2011 and since then it has suffered a series of setback.
