Man arraigned for abduction

A man was recently arraigned before Magistrate Babucarr Secka of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with abduction.

Momodou Lamin Mendy pleaded not guilty of the charge and was granted bail of D50, 000 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means and must also provide a valid ID.

Mendy, in applying for bail, told the court that he was in detention at the state central prison since 2007.

According to the charge sheet, in 2007, at Siffoe Village, West Coast Region, the accused, Momodou Lamin Mendy, took away one Kaddy Jammeh from her father without his consent.

The case was at that juncture adjourned until 29 March 2011.
