LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Cooking gas: Are we getting our value for money

Aug 23, 2012, 9:40 AM

Dear Mr Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the quantity of butane gas we seem to be getting in our cylinders these days.

The cylinders are much lighter than they used to be. The 6-kilogram refill I bought recently is almost empty. I am doubtful there is even up to 3 kilos of gas in them. To prove this, hold an empty cylinder on one hand and hold a supposedly filled cylinder on the other and compare.

The Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Petroleum need to investigate this because we feel really cheated. I bought a 6-kilogram gas cylinder during a recent trip to Senegal and it was three times heavier.

There is definitely something wrong, and I am therefore pleading with the concerned authorities to intervene.
