Talks on Gambia-Guinea friendly stalled

Talks on a proposed Gambia-Guinea friendly match scheduled for this weekend are stalled, even threatened by huge logistical problems, said Omar Sey, vice chairman of the Normalising Committee (NC).

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Mr Sey said the main headache has to do with finding a suitable and convenient method and schedule of transportation to and from Banjul on preferred dates to avoid huge cost to both sides, especially The Gambia.

‘’Our first is Brussels Airlines, but the schedule that links Banjul Conakry would mean that the Guinean team would be in Banjul for one week. That would be terribly expensive for host Gambia as they would have to be booked in a hotel all that while. The other option is Senegal Airlines which plies the route more frequently but the unavoidable transit in Dakar takes a marathon 12 hours which is not acceptable to a professional team of any sort to endure,’’ Mr Sey explained.

He however expressed hope that a way might be found out sooner or later.

“We did not make any formal statement on the proposed match because the arrangements were not completed as I have highlighted,’’ he concluded.
