Lawyers’ boycott delays trial of gov’t officials

The case involving twenty-four government officials, who were charged with neglect of official duty and abuse of office, could not proceed yesterday at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.

Some of the accused persons were present, but the lawyers who are representing them and the prosecutor were absent.

Due to the lawyers’ boycotting of court proceedings, the case could not proceed.

As a result, the clerk told those in the courtroom that he would communicate with the lawyers as to when the case would proceed.

The accused persons earlier denied any wrongdoing.
