A resident of Kunkujang, one Sirra Jatta, recently appeared before Magistrate Fred Foster of the Brikama Magistrates' Court, charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused Sirra Jatta on 9th August 2009, at Kunkujang Village, wilfully and unlawfully assaulted one Awa Jah by pressing hot iron on her chest, and on her right hand, and thereby causing her actual bodily harm.

She pleaded guilty.

The complainant, Awa Jah, appealed to the court to withdraw the matter on the grounds that her parents and the accused's parents had a discussion over the issue, and therefore wanted the case to be withdrawn.

The Police Prosecutor Sgt 553, Abdoulie Jammeh, then applied under Section 68 Sub Section (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code for the case to be withdrawn as requested by the complaint. The application was granted and the case duly withdrawn.

Subsequently, the accused was discharged.
