Buba Jarjue, public relations officer (PRO), Kotu Quarry Youth and Sports Development Association, has called for sponsorship from the Government, NGOs, the private sector and every football lover to develop the community football ground into a mini stadium.
Jarjue, who was speaking during the committee’s organised Junior Noran competition final played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda, added that Kotu and its environs are blessed with young talented players but lack a proper football ground, which is hampering the progress of the players.
He also stated that they have a standard piece of land but need sponsorship to fence and develop the ground into a mini stadium.
They have got a good, committed and hardworking committee working day and night for the development of sport in the area but lack the needed support, he went on.
“There are a lot of young players in Kotu and its surrounding and as a committee we want to encourage them but we need to create a conducive environment for them where they can showcase their talents in order to promote grassroots football but by doing that we need a proper footballing field,” PRO Jarjue noted, saying this is really hampering the progress of football in the area.
Jarjue described the road to the final as tough but added that with the dedication of the committee they were able to make it.
“I am pleased the final went on smoothly,” he said, while congratulating the committee for their efforts, commitment and hard work in ensuring they stage a successful competition.
He as well congratulated both teams for making it to the final, adding that they are the teams that deserve to be in the finals.
Football sometimes can be tense, he pointed out, and advised players to maintain discipline at all times as well as work hard, as in football “if one is not disciplined it is difficult to make it”.
“Without discipline it will be difficult for one to succeed,” he further said, adding that their aim is to continue staging the competition.
