The 2015 Kombo Kerewan Sports Committee (KKSC) nawetan competition is expected to get underway on Saturday 5 September 2015 with Madina United taking on Lampedusa FC in the Super Cup final.
Meanwhile, thirteen teams have lined up for this year’s tournament, with ten of them from satellite villages and three from the host village.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s game, Ousman Sowe, acting chairman of the committee, said his committee has set all functions of organisations in place to make the competition a success.
They expect a large turnout from local residents within their vicinity, he added, while urging stakeholders to support the area to groom more youngsters.
Sowe said they intend to invite dignitaries from the Gambia Football Federation, National Sports Council and the Kombo North District Sports Committee among other individuals, to witness the event.
He urged members of his committee to maintain the spirit of unity and note that sport is development from the village to national level.
Ismaila Jammeh, secretary general of the committee, for his part, said preparations are ongoing to make the tournament a success.
He expressed high hopes that the day will be graced by a massive turnout from the communities.
“We want to make our Nawetan one of the best within the region,” he stated, saying so far they have only received thirteen teams but are expecting more to come forward and register for the tournament.
He noted that the first division players being exempt from participating in nawetan competitions this year will give a chance to young ones to explore their talents.
One of their aims is to select a team that will represent the village at the divisional level and are therefore calling on people to maintain discipline from day one of the competition.
