KGH Football Academy of Lamin, in partnership with Football Gambia, a UK-based charitable organization, on Saturday made a handsome donation of football materials to 19 Naweetan teams in Lamin.

The presented items included goalkeeper gloves and football, at a programme held at the Cannairs School in Lamin under the watchful eyes of Lamin Youth and Sports Committee officials including its secretary general Abdoulie N. Baacha, who was also the first speaker at the occasion.

In his speech, Mr Baacha told the gathering that he was elated to be associated with such an auspicious occasion.

“I am delighted for the gesture because it is part of the Lamin Youth and Sports Committee’s primary desire to raise the standard of soccer in Lamin to the highest desirable standards,” he said. “In doing so, it calls for concerted effort from all and sundry.”

Baacha, who was appointed as the secretary general of Lamin Youth and Sports Committee in 2009, went on to shower praises on Yahya Manneh, who, he said, was the inspirational figure behind the whole initiative.

“This man (Yahya Manneh), have been so much instrumental in the development and promotion of football in Lamin and beyond over the years,” he noted.

Baacha described Manneh’s contribution towards football development as unique, saying, “This is the first time that the Lamin Youth and Sports Committee received such donation from Manneh.”  He was however quick to note that the service rendered by Yahya Manneh in such a noble course “is unprecedented”.

Baacha was joined by his immediate assistant at Lamin Youth and Sports Committee, Lamin B. Bojang, in expressing similar sentiments.

For Yahya Manneh, country director of Football Gambia, it is part of his organisation’s efforts at complementing the good work of associations or individuals in football promotion and development in The Gambia.

He however spoke of the importance of what he described as a worthy presentation to his own people, saying: “It is even more special and greater coming back home to help develop and promote football in my home land, Lamin.”

He added: “Switching attention to my people with such support is something great and I am extremely delighted to be part of every moment of it.”

The teams that benefited from the donation are Sanchaba United, Goldengate FC, Lion Paw FC, Wayeto West, Banjulinding United, Semi Estate FC, Wayeto United, Jatta’s FC, Lamin Manga FC, Falcon FC, Sateba United, Daranka UTD, Vex Yard FC, Temasu FC, Network FC, Sutton United FC, Workshop FC, Universal Football Academy and Kairaba Forex Bureau FC.
