The
University of Senior Citizens-Gambia (USC-G) has announced that the formal
launching of the Association scheduled for 28 March, 2020, with the support of
NATCOM/UNESCO has been postponed until further notice.
“This
difficult decision was taken due to the Coronavirus/Covid19 pandemic. We are
monitoring the situation closely before proposing a new date,” it said in a
statement.
“USC-G
is an association of women and men aged 60 years and above from different
sectors of the society. Our main objective is to enhance the quality of life
and living conditions of senior citizens through knowledge sharing, continuous
education and learning, and engagement in community services.”
“USC-G
is already registered with the Attorney General Chambers, the Ministry of
Justice.”
“We
would like to seize this opportunity to convey our message to the general
public, especially the senior citizens of the seriousness of the
Coronavirus/COVID 19 pandemic. According
to WHO, senior citizens are among the most vulnerable groups and can be easily
contaminated. We therefore urge all senior citizens to be very vigilant and to
follow all precautionary measures and advices taken by The Government of The
Gambia, health practitioners and other relevant structures and agencies. The
measures outlined to fight the virus include social distancing, confinement,
high standards of hygiene and so on..We wish each and every one of you the best
of luck and good health.”
