The
Executive Committee of the Gambia Karate Association has denied nominating
Dodou ‘Capi’ Joof for the forthcoming Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC)
election.
It
was initially reported that the karate association was part of those
organizations listed as supporting Dodou ‘Capi’ Joof.
A
press release sent yesterday to Pointsports and signed by the 2nd vice
president of the association, Sang Gomez, stated that the “nomination done by
any individual in the name of the association is null and void”.
The
following is the full text of the press release sent to this paper by the
association:
“The
Executive Committee of the Gambia Karate Federation is hereby informing the
General Public, especially the National Sports Council, GNOC and the Sporting
Fraternity that in connection with the upcoming GNOC Elections, the Committee
did not nominate any candidate as published by the newspapers.
“Therefore,
any nomination done by any individual in the name of Karate is null and void,
as the decision making body of the Federation is not aware of such nomination
and therefore, would not endorse the nomination done on behalf of Karate.
“The Federation is committed to democratic
principles as stipulated in its constitution and shall continue to adhere to
those principles.”
