Jarra Central Chief, 8 others arrested over rice theft

Police in the Lower River Region have arrested nine people including the chief of Jarra Central, Alhagie Bakary Dampha, and the regional Disaster Management Coordinator, Lamin Saidy, over the sale of bags of rice meant for disaster victims, sources in the region have confirmed.

According to our sources, the suspects were arrested on Friday after police discovered that 32 bags of rice meant for the disaster victims in the region were diverted, and sold to one Amadou Wurry Bah at a discounted price of D400.

At the time of going to press, all the nine suspects remained in police custody, our LRR sources added.
