The Banjul Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded in custody an Italian national, one Regnoni Renato, who was arraigned on a charge of rape.
According to the particulars of offence, in July 2011 at Bakau New Town, the accused, Regnoni Renato, allegedly had canal knowledge of a girl 13 years old.
The presiding magistrate told the accused person that his court lacked the jurisdiction to try the case, and he could only mention it and transfer it to the high court, that has the jurisdiction to hear the case.
He then ordered the accused to be remanded pending the filing of the proper charge at the high court.
