Isatou Suso, a 16-year-old girl who was suffering from heart disease, has returned home after successfully undergoing heart surgery at the University of Groniegen in Holland thanks to Harry Wayper and wife Lidy Blaauw for facilitating the process.

Speaking to journalists at the Banjul International Airport on 22 July, Mr Wayper, a Dutch national, said Isatou has regained her health condition and can carry on with her normal life activities as “she is very strong”.

According to him, the operation cost about 40,000 euros a support he was able to give from Heart Patient Foundation in Holland and the University of Groniegen through moral and financial support for the successful treatment of the girl.

“I came to know Isatou Suso through a friend with a request for support with medical reports from the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul, the Medical Research Council in Fajara and Dakar recommending her for overseas treatment,” he added.

He called on the family of Isatou Suso to take good care of her and let her take the regular medication as prescribed by doctors since the medication needed are already available.

For her part, Isatou Suso commended Harry for the “unbelievable adventure”. While narrating her ordeal in the presence of family members and loved ones tears of happiness were dropping down her cheeks, to see her friends and loved ones back home.

“I cannot thank and bless Harry Wayper enough; he and her wife have done everything for me from lodging, to feeding, and communication, to facilitate the successful operation of my heart,” she added.

Famara Singateh, a family member of Isatou Suso who is also a benefactor of Harry’s sponsorship reading law at the UTG, commended Harry Wayper for his humanitarian gesture, saying the Dutch is a genuine philanthropist who supports the poor and needy children in The Gambia.

Naffie Suso, a sister to Isatou, commended Harry and his family for their extraordinary support to their loved one whilst assuring them that they would go by the doctors’ prescription and give Isatou the necessary support she would need.
