Indecent assailant in court

The Kanifing Magistrates' Court, presided over by senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke recently heard a criminal case of indecent assault on a female brought against one Ousman Barry.

According to the particulars of offence, on 22nd January 2010, at Westfield, the accused Ousman Barry indecently assaulted one Ida Bah by putting his hand under her breast.

However, the police prosecutor informed the court that "the accused seems to appear mentally imbalance" and therefore applied for him to be taken to the RVTH for mental check-up.

The trial Magistrate acceded to the prosecution application and ordered for him to be mentally examined to determine whether he is fit for trial.

The case was adjourned to 17th February 2010.
