High Court Hears Niumi Murder Case

The Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Joseph Wowo yesterday heard the murder that happened in Nuimi in the North Bank Region involving four suspects.

They are Alpha Joof, Ebou Demba Sowe, Abdoulie Senghorr and Sambujang Joof. All Accused denied the charge.

According to the particulars of the offence, on or about the 28thJuly 2005, at Njogon village in the North Bank Region the accused persons caused the death of one Ousman Njie by beating him with sticks.

Led by State Counsel Marley Wood, PW1 Pierre Jatta told the court that he is fisherman and he lives in Leona-Njago in Niumi North Bank Region and he can remember one Ousman Njie now deceased. He said he could recognise the 1staccused Alpha Joof. He revealed that in a certain day in the month of July 2005 he was on his way to buy a battery for his torch light when he met a group of people armed with sticks beaten a boy and he recognised the 1staccused Alpha Joof. He said he called the 1staccused Alpha Joof and enquired what was happening and Alpha Joof told him that the boy was disturbing them at home and they are driving him away. He said he continued to the shop to buy the battery when he met one Daniel and after buying the battery he left with Daniel and on their way they saw a boy sitting in the middle of the road. He said he heard people running and the boy was shouting and he recognised the voice.

PW1 further testified that he and Daniel entered into a compound where he told one David Sheriff Mendy that a boy had been beaten. He revealed that when they went to the scene, those beating the boy took to their heels, adding that they enquired from the boy who told them that he came from up country. He said the following morning he met with David who told him that the boy had died. He said after, he came to know the name of the boy.
