Health
and wealth of a nation are fundamentally linked. And there is this popular
saying that healthier populations live longer, more productive lives, leading
to greater economic prosperity. This simply shows the importance of health for
countries.
As
reported in the news, the INNOVARX Global Health, a business-to-business cum
business-to-customer service provider recently extended its services to The
Gambia with the inauguration of its new regional complex in Kanifing.
The
move could not have come at a better time than now, when there is increasing
calls for government to invest more in the health sector. It is open secret
that government alone cannot do it, thus the need for more partnership in the
area of health. We must also put our collective efforts together if we are to
achieve any meaningful progressive as a nation.
It
is clear, therefore, that as a country and as individuals, the need to pay
greater attention to health cannot be ignored.
The
time to clean up our act is now. Gambians cannot continue in this vein where
millions of dollars are being flushed down the drain because of bad health
habits.
Nation
building efforts cannot be successful if adequate attention is not paid to the
population’s health. Therefore, health plays an integral role in any country’s
development crusade. At the core of this
mandate are our health workers who give care to the sick so that they are able
to work and care for their families.
Thus,
the coming of this new firm, which is set to become the premier clinical
services and technology solutions provider in The Gambia, will now ensure
access to quality and affordable care to all Gambians. However, what is more
gratifying is that the move is in line with the overall government agenda as
clearly spelt out in the National Development Plan to upgrade health
facilities, improve access and assure affordability.
We
must put at the back of our minds that the quality of health sector determines
the quality of life for country’s population.
“It
is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”
Mahatma
Gandhi
