Hamat Bah rejoins NRP

Dec 9, 2011, 1:45 PM

Hamat NK Bah, leader of the opposition National Reconciliation Party (NRP), has rejoined his party barely a month after he resigned to contest the 24th November presidential polls as an independent candidate.

A news release from the Independent Electoral Commission yesterday said according to a letter from the NRP dated 29th November 2011, Mr Bah’s application to join the NRP has already been accepted by the leadership of the party and he has, in fact, been reinstated as the Secretary General and leader of the party.

Bah, it would be recalled, resigned from the National Reconciliation Party two weeks before the 24th November presidential election to stand as an independent candidate, backed by the opposition United Front, which comprised four parties.

The Peoples Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), the Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) and the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) signed an MoU establishing the United Front.
