Gunjur Upper Basic School Retain Western Region Inter-Schools Heats

Upper Basic Schools in the Western Region last Saturday converged at Brikama Upper Basic School grounds to hold their annual Trust Bank sponsored Inter-Schools Athletics heats ahead of the Gambia Inter-Schools athletics, slated to take place at the Independence in Bakau in March. 

Fourteen schools took part in the championship which was keenly contested by athletes from various schools across Western Region.

Gunjur Upper Basic School retained the title for a second time in a row after securing 291 points, Kitty Upper Basic School occupied 2nd spot with 205 points, Kabafita Upper Basic School came out 3rd with 199 points, Brikama Upper Basic School 4th with 181 points, and Saint Francis Upper Basic School 5th with 170 points.

Sixth position was occupied by Jamisa Upper Basic School 150 points; Penyem came 7th with 109 points, Arangallen Upper Basic School 8th with 96 points, Tujereng Upper Basic School 9th with 74 points,

After securing 64 position, Mindaw Upper Basic Schoolcame out 10th, while Kunkujang Keitaya Upper Basic School 11th with 60th points, Jambanjelly Basic Cycle came 12th with 57th points, and Old Yundum Upper Basic School are 13th with 56th points

Presentation Upper Basic School lies at the bottom of the table with only 42 points.

Speaking to Pointsport shortly after the events the Physical Education Master of Gunjur Upper Basic School, Edward Jassey, said he was really impressed with the performance of his athletes after retaining the title for the second time in a row.

He pointed out that they will go back to the training ground and prepare well for the final later this year and expressed optimism that his school will clinch this year’s Trust Bank sponsored Inter- Schools Athletics Championship.

The Secretary-General of the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association, Alagie S. Darboe, said the heats for the Senior Secondary Schools category in the Western Region is slated for Saturday 13th February 2010, at the Brikama Upper Basic School.

Schools in the Greater Banjul Area will hold their annual heats on March 5-7, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

 The national inter-school final is slated for March 12th and 13th 2010.
