Gunjur
United have revenged against Team Rihno in the 2019-2020 Gambia Football
Federation (GFF) second division league campaign.
The
Gunjur based club thumped Serrekunda London Corner based team 2-0 in the
week-one fixture, played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium on Friday.
Gunjur
United came all out for revenge after slipping to Team Rihno 2-0 and 3-1 last
season prior to their opening league game.
Team
Rihno dominated the first half and crafted several goal scoring opportunities
but failed to capitalize on them.
Gunjur
United, who were unable to contain Team Rihno, created some goal scoring
chances but failed to found the back of the net thus the first half ended
goalless.
Upon
resumption of the match, Gunjur United regrouped themselves and pile heavy
pressure on Team Rihno, creating numerous scoring chances.
Prolific
striker Dawda Darboe alias Viper gave Gunjur United the lead in the 57th minute
of the match from an excellent strike after Team Rihno’s custodian Lamin Jawara
parried away midfielder Salifu Bojang alias Bapa’s stunning power long range
strike.
Salifu
Bojang alias Bapa could have netted the second goal for Gunjur United in the
60th minute of the match but his effort was denied by Team Rihno defender Lamin
Tabally.
Tallish
man Malang Jassey scored the second goal for Gunjur United in the 65th minutes
to earn Gunjur based-team their first victory in the country’s new second tier
season.
In
the other scores, Bombada thrashed Second Infantry Battalion 3-0 at the Brikama
Box Bar Mini Stadium while Samger defeated Latrikunda United 1-0 at the
Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.
Young
Africans beat newly-promoted side Falcons on the same score line at the
Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.
