Gunjur United have revenged against Team Rihno in the 2019-2020 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) second division league campaign.

The Gunjur based club thumped Serrekunda London Corner based team 2-0 in the week-one fixture, played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium on Friday.

Gunjur United came all out for revenge after slipping to Team Rihno 2-0 and 3-1 last season prior to their opening league game.

Team Rihno dominated the first half and crafted several goal scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them.

Gunjur United, who were unable to contain Team Rihno, created some goal scoring chances but failed to found the back of the net thus the first half ended goalless.

Upon resumption of the match, Gunjur United regrouped themselves and pile heavy pressure on Team Rihno, creating numerous scoring chances.

Prolific striker Dawda Darboe alias Viper gave Gunjur United the lead in the 57th minute of the match from an excellent strike after Team Rihno’s custodian Lamin Jawara parried away midfielder Salifu Bojang alias Bapa’s stunning power long range strike.

Salifu Bojang alias Bapa could have netted the second goal for Gunjur United in the 60th minute of the match but his effort was denied by Team Rihno defender Lamin Tabally.

Tallish man Malang Jassey scored the second goal for Gunjur United in the 65th minutes to earn Gunjur based-team their first victory in the country’s new second tier season.

In the other scores, Bombada thrashed Second Infantry Battalion 3-0 at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium while Samger defeated Latrikunda United 1-0 at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

Young Africans beat newly-promoted side Falcons on the same score line at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.
