Gunjur United, Starlight FC sail to GFA 2nd division

Gunjur United FC and Starlight of Banjul are the two lucky teams to have gained promotion to the Gambia Football Association (GFA) second division after their goalless draw.

Tuesday’s final game of the third division qualifiers played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium failed to produce a winner.

Therefore both teams, who were each having 7 points, have automatically qualified to the second division in first and second places with 8 points in four matches.

Gintos Football Academy, who missed to qualify to the second division finished 3rd on the standings with 7points, a single point behind Gunjur United FC and Starlight FC.

Nema United FC came out 4th, while Tobacco Road United FC are rooted at the bottom of the standings with a single point in four games.

Starlight Coach Delights at team’s Return to 2nd Division

Following his team’s promotion to the Gambia Football Association (GFA) second division, the head coach of Starlight FC, Omar Fatty, has expressed his delight with his side’s return to the GFA second division after their relegation to the third division last season.

According to Coach Fatty, his team deserved to be promoted to the second division because they were very well prepared for the qualifiers and did win two games and drew two.

The team was also unbeaten during the course of the qualifiers, which earned them a place in the second tier.

Coach Fatty, who pointed out the problem with his team’s relegation to the third division for lack of experience, said this time around they would be prepared for the task ahead in order to avoid relegation.

Gunjur Targets First Division

The head coach of Gunjur United FC, Ousman Sanneh, applauded his players for their hard work and commitment during the course of the West Coast Region third division qualifiers and GFA qualifiers, which secured them a place in the second division.

According to coach Sanneh, his target is to qualify to the first division and expressed optimism that his players are capable of executing this task.

Coach Sanneh seized the opportunity to call on Gunjurians both at home and abroad to give financial support to the team for its second division campaign and expressed hope that the team will certainly gain promotion to the top-tier next season.
