Gunjur
on Monday beat Brufut 2-1 in the all-West Coast Region derby game played at the
Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium to clinch their victory in the 2016 FiBank Gambia
Limited-sponsored Super Nawetan zonal football tournament.
Gunjur
defeated Brufut 3-2 in the 2015 Super Nawetan prior to their Monday’s West
Coast region derby clash.
Brufut
came all out for revenge to claim the vital three points after losing to Gunjur
in the 2015 Super Nawetan. They dominated the opening minute of the game but
could not break through Gunjur’s formidable defence line.
Gunjur,
who were unable to establish well in the opening minutes of the game, opened
the scores striker Lamin Jallow alias Sako in the 30th minute of the game from
a sound finish to give South boys the lead after a poor start to the game.
Brufut
reacted quickly for an equalizer but could not break through Gunjur’s solid
defence line thus the first half ended 1-nil.
Upon
resumption of the game, Gunjur picked up where they left in the first half and
posed more threat on Brufut and their efforts paid dividend after the interval
when midfielder Mbemba Fatty notched in the second goal for Gunjur to dash
Brufut’s hopes of coming back to their feet.
Brufut
responded back for an equalizer and managed to pull back one through striker
Omar Jarjue in the 66th minute of the game, which eventually proved to be a
consolation goal for the Sanimentereng boys.
Serrekunda
East thrashed Sukuta 3-1 in the other group B tie played at the Serrekunda East
Mini Stadium to claim their first win in the 2016 FiBank-sponsored Super
Nawetan after losing to Dembadou boys 2-0 in the 2015 Super Nawetan semi-final.
Serrekunda
East and Gunjur are both with 3 points each in one game after beating Sukuta
and Brufut in their opening group B matches.
Brufut
and Sukuta are both with zero point in one match after losing to Gunjur and
Serrekunda East in their opening group B games respectively.
