The Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA) concluded a two-day visit to ten major hotels within the greater Banjul area. The aim of the visit was to meet holiday makers in The Gambia by entertaining them for the coming Christmas and to wish them happy New Year in advance.

The hotels visited included the Kombo Beach Hotel, the Sunset Beach Hotel, the Jerma Beach Hotel, the Jaliba Hotel, and the Senegambia Beach Hotel.

Speaking shortly after arriving at the Sunset Beach Hotel, Momodou Dibba, marketing manager for the GTA, said the aim of the visit was to meet tourists who came in the country to enjoy their holidays and to wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.

Lisa Brown, a Swedish national, said she came with her husband for a two-week holiday as well as to spend the Christmas and the New Year in The Gambia.

According to her, they came to The Gambia because of the sunshine and to see other Africa natural sites. “This is my first visit and I really like it. Gambia is a nice place and the people are very friendly,” she said.

For his part, Momodou Tala Jobe, PRO of GTA, told reporters that the reason they embarked on the tour was to familiarise themselves with the tourists and to wish them a happy Christmas and New Year in advance.

Mr Jobe said as a tourism board, they are responsible for tourism promotions and development to show tourists that “we appreciate their coming to the country”.

The GTA public relations officer added that he was very impressed with the first round of the hotel tour, as he was happy with the number of tourists he saw in all the hotels.

The Holy Christian Cultural Group was part of the tour to entertaining the guests.
