Musa Mendy, president of the Gambia Primary School Sports Association, last Thursday briefed journalists on the forthcoming 6th edition of the 49th Independence anniversary celebration.
He told journalists that as part of the celebrations the president has always sponsored the interregional sports athletics for lower basic school.
As usual, he said, they are expecting mass participation from all the regions from 16 to 19 February 2014 to take part in this important national event.
He said the importance of these activities cannot be overemphasized, as this concerns every Gambian, in the sense that all the regions will be represented in these very noble activities.
The most remote village in the country normally participates as far as the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is concerned, he noted.
He further commended the President of The Gambia and his family for their usual surprise sponsors for this important event.
He noted that last year was a special year in the history of this interregional sports competition.
