The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) will engage workers from all walks of life in the 21st edition of the May Day Sports on Sunday. The 50 participating companies and institutions this year will take part in 14 activities.
There will be coordination teams divided into 5 structures. These are the entertainment, health, security, technical and the protocol committees.
According to Lawrence Bruce, executive director of the GNOC, May Day Mass Sports is a sport for various promotional activities to rekindle friendships and create avenues for business.
“It is about knowing which company is doing what and what is it doing for the economy,” he said.
The GNOC is using May Day Sports to promote the idea of using sports for healthy lifestyles, Mr Bruce says, adding that there will be tickets for sale, and that workers will match from the former Daily Observer office at Sait Matty Road to the Independence Stadium in Bakau at 9 am.
The GNOC executive director also seized the opportunity to call on the general public to send in their nominations for the sports personnel of the year for the upcoming 13th edition of the Sports Award Ceremony.
