The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has set up a media committee for the upcoming May Day Sports Celebrations for year 2012 activities.
The May Day event brings together parastatals and civil servants from all walks of life to commemorate workers’ day in the year.
The event, full of social and sporting activities, also generates eventful moments with eagerness of contestants wanting to finish atop or be within the range of the top five great achievements.
Since the inception of the event, the media has been playing a critical and crucial role to give it the attention it deserves; which has necessitated the formalization of the media’s participation in the event.
And the formalization meeting held at the GNOC House resulted in the setting up of the media committee comprising both the print and electronic media.
However, only four members of the media were nominated to serve in the May Day organizing committee seating, held on Wednesday of every week.
Baboucarr Camara of the Daily Observer Newspaper, Muhamadou Gagga of Standard Newspaper, Mama Faal of City Limits Radio and Lamin Ceesay of West Coast Radio are the nominated media committee members to represent all the media houses at the meeting with companies.
Their terms and references include sending information to all the newspapers and radio stations in the country after every meeting.
