Saamasang
Federation in collaboration with ChildFund The Gambia recently sensitised the
women of Galloya on child protection and child rights
The
aim of the sensitisation exercise was for women to know how to protect their
children below 18 years, and also as a community engagement programme.
Speaking
in an interview, Haruna Badjie of Social Welfare department, said every child
under 18 years needs to be protected, and also needs to know their rights
because they are the future generation.
Every
woman needs to protect her own children by preventing them from early marriage
and sexual abuse like rape, he added.
Badjie
advised the women to allow their children to continue with their education for
their future, because education is key to life, as without education and health
nothing goes.
He
said no woman should allow her children to work hard because this could also
affect the education of the child.
Gibbi
Fatty of Saamasang Federation said the programme was for the community
engagement that Saamasang is trying to bring to the mothers who are in their
programme, to sensitise them about child rights and child protection.
He
said some parents do not know about child rights and child protection, adding
that this was why Saamasang came up with this programme to help them, for their
children to have a good education and also good environment.
He
advised the women in Galloya to protect their children, and also take the training
course seriously.
Awa
Jallow of Galloya Cluster said children need to be protected by their mothers,
adding that Saamasang has been doing a lot for them and their children, by
helping them in their education and health.
