The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has announced that it has changed the elections date from 16 October to 20 October 2010, following the National Sports Council?s request for the GNOC to stick to the constitutional provision of 30 days.

With reference to our letter Ref: the GNOC\40 of 20th September 2010, I hereby inform you that there is a change to the date of the elections of the GNOC president, in order to strictly adhere to the GNOC?s constitutional provision of 30 days, Article V11, section 7.4.
This issue has been a subject of discussion between the Executive director of the National Sports Council and the GNOC secretary general, and the GNOC bureau decision was to hold the elections on a Saturday which is non-working day.
By way of strictly adhering to constitutional provision, the new date for the elections is Wednesday, 20 October 2010, at 5PM.
In the same vein, I would like to inform you that for the reasons of transparency, accountability, and in exercise of good governance, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will conduct the elections.
The National Sports Council and the media representatives will observe the elections.
