Hearing Continues in Police Assault Case

Alagie Keita, a police officer, recently gave his own version of the circumstances arrest of one Tijan Jahna, of New Jeshwang, who is alleged to have insulted and assaulted a police officer.

Mr Keita told the court that on 9 April 2009 while he was on duty in the charge office at the Serrekunda Police Station, one Lamin Kebbeh lodged a complaint at the station that the accused had always threatened his family and as a result his boss Inspector Camara assigned him with one Sarjo Bah to go and arrest the accused.

"Upon arrival at their compound in New Jeshwang, while we introduced ourselves as police officers, the accused started insulting us,"Alagie Keita said.

The testifying officer adduced that the accused then gave him a blow on his face and held his neck with such force that he lost two of his shirt buttons.

He further revealed that the accused further threatened to stab them with a knife.

"Despite these threat we cooperated with him until we were able to take him to the station where he was cautioned and charged and recorded their statements," he said. The matter continues on 20th May 2009.
