Gambia Football Federation’s President Lamin Kabba Bajo has said he was really impressed with the performance of the Gambia team against Mauritania in the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers played at the Independence Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the goalless draw, Bajo said the boys performed “very well”, adding that they were just unlucky not to score a goal as they had every opportunity to score goals to at least retain the three points.

The GFF president said in football any result is possible, but “the beauty is that the performance of The Gambia is no longer below standard”.

The team has improved on their performance since in Nouakchott and are getting better, he observed.

He also said he was surprised at the good turnout of fans especially that the game was played on a working day, with the match starting at 4:30pm.

“This has manifested a renewed confidence of the fans in the team,” he said, adding that they wished such turnouts of fans could continue and be sustained “so that together we can build the team we all deserve”.

Concluding, he said: “We are on course in the rebuilding and rebranding of our football.”
