Gambia
Football Federation, Monday kicked off a CAF D license coaching course for
School Physical Education teachers and coaches GFF Women’s League, at the
National Technical Training Center in Yundum.
The
weeklong induction training is earmarked for women coaches to equip them with
the requisite skills in coaching.
Speaking
at the opening ceremony, General Secretary Gambia Football Federation (GFF),
Lamin M. Jassey emphasized on the GFF Executive’s commitment to the growth and
development of Women’s football in the Gambia.
He
said women’s football is at the heart of the football leadership’s core mandate
“and as such, the GFF is very committed to taking this course very seriously
and we will support it at all levels”.
He stated that The Gambia is one of the sixteen
countries in Africa that is benefiting from the training program for the first
time in Africa. “This shows that the GFF is doing something that CAF, UEFA and
FIFA is recognizing”.
Technical
Director Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Sang John Ndong hailed the
Federation for the support garnered to Women’s Football. “The GFF is investing
a lot in training human resources to help develop football in the country and
that also involves Women’s football”
Mr
Ndong said effective development can be attained through the use of the bottom-
top approach where Lower Basic and the Grassroots could be exploited. “If the country is to produce other world
stars, it has to start from you that are directly dealing with the young ones
as a foundation”, the former Scorpions gaffer noted.
He
challenged the participants to make best use of the opportunity while he
envisages to see the participants to levels ‘B’ and ‘A’ license.
German-Gambia
Women’s Football Project Coordinator Monika Staab expressed gratitude and
delight in the implementation of the program.
She thanked GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo for the undiluted support
extended to Women’s football. She said Mr Bajo is a keen supporter to the
Women’s game. “The GFF is doing a wonderful job to see women’s football grow.”
This
can be seen in both the Women’s national leagues and recently the U-20 and
National team’s engagement at continental and global level. ``
She
thanked her colleagues women’s football coordinator Sainey Sissoho and
Assistant Women’s Football Coordinator Veronic Malack for doing a wonderful
job. “Both Sainey and Veronic would be
able to fulfill the mission when I leave for Germany at the end of the
period,’’ she noted.
Twenty
participants from selected schools and clubs will receive certificates at the
end of the week long training program that will cap off this Sunday
