The much-awaited second round of The Gambia Football
Association national first division league second round will finally kick off
on Friday the 2ndMay 2008.
The league this season, as most people predicted, has been
the best so far and seen very good performances during the first round with the
league leaders Samger looking to maintain there momentum that they generated in
the first round. The question is will they maintain it? Samger defeated most of
the big teams in the first round and are on top of the league with 21 points, 2
points ahead of the 2007 GFA league champions Real de Banjul. The second round
games are expected to be tough encounters with the big teams ready to bounce
back. The academy boys seem capable of snatching the league title from the
hands of Real de Banjul. While some of the big teams like Bakau United,
Interior and Sea View need to double their efforts to avoid relegation.
According to the second round fixtures, only four weeks will
be played due to the engagement of the national team to the World and African
cup preliminary round. It will be recalled that The Gambia senior national team
will travel to Liberia
on May 30th2008 for the first leg of the qualifiers. They
host Senegal a week later,
and play Algeria
both in The Gambia.
