Gamcel FC on Sunday got through to the 2008 Gunjur knockout championship final following a 2-1 victory over Gunjur Project Lodge FC in their semifinal clash played at Gunjur football pitch.
Both teams produced spectacular performances in the first 15 minutes of the game but in the later part of the half, Gamcel FC were superb in the midfield. They registered their first goal in the 25th minute of the game through striker Yusupha Barrow, alias Beckham. Sailou Jagne doubled the lead in the 30th minute of the game dashing Gunjur Project Lodge FC's hopes of coming back to their feet.
Gunjur Project Lodge FC made a strong fight back and they managed to pull back one goal in the 40th minute of the game through midfielder Omar Sanyang after slashing the Gamcel FC defence. The first half ended 2-1 in favour of Gamcel FC.
As action resumed in the second half, Gunjur Project Lodge FC went all out for an equalizing goal and mounted more pressure on the Gamcel FC defensive line. They created a lot of opportunities in front of the Gamcel FC goalmouth but could capitalize on their chances. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Gamcel FC.
Meanwhile, Late Pa Jobe FC also booked their ticket to the final after edging out Dunes FC 1-0 in the other semi final encounter. Late Pa Jobe FC's lone goal was scored by Bahuha Jammeh and Late Pa Jobe will now meet Gamcel FC in the final. It will be recalled that Gamcel FC were to play league against Cathy FC. Details of this game are to be announced later.
