The Gambia Martial Art and Self-Defence Academy on Sunday held their second promotional exams on Vovinam Viet Vo Dao, at the Latrikunda Upper Basic School.
"The grading was aimed at teaching the students on the programmes and techniques on the curriculum that is fixed for certain period of time where the students are also given the chance to be trained and be upgraded," according to the Coordinator of the Gambia Martial Art and Self-Defence, Yerro Njie.

"We have similar ones for Taekwando last month at the Latrikunda Upper Basic School and B.O Semega Janneh Hall, which is called pre-grading and that came before mock exams where students will be given certificates for their wonderful performances during the upgrading process," Yerro explained to Pointsport.

He added that martial arts is not meant for fighting, noting that it helps students nurture their talents.

Njie further revealed that some of the challenges the Academy is confronted with, include their efforts of bringing in more students to be part of the Martial arts team in the country.

The organiser of the progrmme, Sally Njie outlined numerous challenges facing the Academy. But she was quick to reveal that it has now attracted interest of up to 70 students.

Sally herself, a black belt holder in Karate, further used the occasion to urge young students who wish to do the arts to make good use of the opportunity.
