According to information monitor by Entertainment, preparations are on the way as many Gambians in the Scandinavian and other parts of Europe gears to celebrate another week-long Festival organised by the Organisation of Gambians in Stockholm, Sweden.
According to Oumie Njie, Acting Chairperson of the organisation, this year's cultural festival is coming with lots of cultural activities. She added that the festival have activities for children and women. The Sweden based Gambian revealed that Gambian Cultural week is the biggest and most popular annual programme in The Gambian-Sweden Community. She explained that its relatively marked with events more or less confined to football matches and music concerts, noting that the cultural week has evolved to a gigantic and well respected event in Europe. She revealed that the event will kick-start from June 20th to 27th, in different venues within Stockholm, noting that this event will showcase the rich and diverse cultures of The Gambia.
She added that this year, the organisers took the bold move to have only Gambian musicians to perform during the last night of the week. In the past, she revealed, Senegalese musicians like Pape Diouf were flown to Stockholm to offer entertainment. This move by the organisation, she further added, was hailed by local Gambian musicians. Some of the musicians lined up to perform are the renowned Gambian Rap Star, MO Hawk of the Dafugitive and Ali Mike Susso, a Kora player making a name for himself in the Swedish music arena.
