The Gambia are bracing up for crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Namibia on 9 October 2015 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The 9 October meeting would be the third such game between the Gambia and Namibia in the international football competition qualifiers.

The Gambia thrashed Namibia 3-1 in the first leg of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in September 2010, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau with goals from Sainey Nyassi, Ousman Jallow and Momodou Ceesay.

Namibia beat the Gambia 1-0 in the second leg in October 2011, but the win could not earn them a place in the continent’s bi-annual biggest football fiesta.

The Gambia lost to Cameroon 1-0 in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at the weekend. But the team is hoping to recover against Namibia come October 9 to fancy their chances of qualifying to the second round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Namibia, on the other hand, will also be striving to bounce back against The Gambia, come October 9, after losing to Senegal 2-0 in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers at the weekend.

Namibia will host The Gambia in the second leg a week after.

The winner between the Gambia and Namibia will face Guinea Conakry in the second round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
