Gambia govt. issues statement on Israel-Hamas war

The Gambia government has issued the following statement on the current conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

“The Government of The Gambia has been following with great concern the recent conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic movement of Hamas, which had escalated into a major armed confrontation resulting in the deaths and destruction of property, and thereby escalating the suffering of civilian populations, particularly women and children, on both sides.

“We welcome the truce brokered by Egypt yesterday, and would like to call on the parties to fully adhere to the terms of the truce so that the humanitarian crisis unleashed by the conflict could also come to an end in order to avoid further erosion of confidence in the peace process.

“As a neutral party, The Gambia stands ready to mediate in consolidating the terms of the ceasefire or in any future negotiation between the parties.

“As a peace-loving nation, we pray for peace to reign in that part of the world so that children could grow up to live their childhood dreams”.
