Gambian team in Bergen win six championship titles

A team composed of Gambians living in Bergen, Norway, has set a record of six championships wins in the annual Bergen football tournament in Norway.

The recently concluded tournament has now reached two decades of football integration among other nations in Bergen. The 2012 tournament featured eight teams, which include Tanzania,Ghana, Eritera and The Gambia.

In this year’s final played recently, The Gambia beat a team composed of Eriterians 3-1. The Eriterians took the lead just 10 minutes in the game, but the Gambians neutralised the scores  minutes before the end of the first half and came back to score two more goals  in the second half to take home the annual title for the sixth  time.

Both finalists each won two of their group matches to ensure a  semi-final spot and later proceded to the final after passing through the semis.

The Gambians lost 3-1 in the opening to Ytre Arne. They  beat Tanzania 1-0 and hammered the Kurdistan 4-0.
