Gambia Cricket team reaches No1, sweeps awards in Pepsi ICC Div 3 Tournament

The Gambia Cricket team headed by team coach Johnny Gomez has for the first time climbed up to the rank of number 1 in division 3 in the just concluded Pepsi ICC-Africa WCL T-20 Division 3 tournament in South Africa.

The team, which made a respectable performance in the tournament, also bagged 8 awards and three more for men.

According to Johnny Gomez, team coach and head of delegation, Atish Tadav collected 4 awards as the highest run scorer in the tournament, while Aniru Conteh emerged highest wicket taker with 15 wickets in the whole tournament.

Gomez said team captain Prince David Johnson won an individual man of the match award and Gabriel Njie also recorded man of the match award against Cameroon.

The team, which returned home under its dynamic team manager Malamin Fofana, recently won Mali, Rwanda and others as part of the tournament.

GAMBIA vs. ST. HELENA

St. Helena won the toss and elected to bat and scored 139 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs D. George 48 runs of 44balls, G. George 48runs of 37 balls. Gambia batted in the second innings and scored 129 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Atish Yadav batted and scored 26 runs of 31balls, and Melvin Williams 29 runs of 24 balls played. ST. HELENA WON BY 1 WICKET

 

GAMBIA vs. MALI

Gambia won the toss and elected to bat and scored 156 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs Atish Yadav 59, and Mbye Dumbuya bowled and took 3wickets for 16 runs. Mali batted and scored 100 runs for the loss of 9 wickets; Mali’s M. Keita took 4 wickets for 24 runs and W. Wague batted and scored 21 runs. GAMBIA WON BY 56 RUNS

 

GAMBIA vs. ZAMBIA

Zambia won the toss and elected to bat. Zambia scored 185 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. A. Nsensha scored 79 runs of 60 balls played. Zambian S. Sopariya took 3 wickets for 26 runs I. Patel 3 wickets for 9 runs.

In the second innings Gambia batted and scored 87 runs all out. Aniru Conteh bowled and took 2 wickets for 24, Andeh Jarju 2 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs; Gambia scored 87 all out. ZAMBIA WON BY 98 RUNS

 

RWANDA vs. GAMBIA

Gambia won the toss and elected to bat and scored 125 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in overs. Gabriel Ndiaye batted and scored 43runs of 41balls played. Rwanda batted in the second innings and scored 121 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Dusingizimana batted and scored 42 runs of 46 balls played. D. Mungu took 3wickets for 20 runs. GAMBIA WON BY 4 RUNS
